MarketingExperiments.com recently compared the advertising performance levels of several of the leading pay-per-click (PPC) search engines. They tested 31 health and beauty product keywords on Google, Overture, FindWhat and Enhance Interactive. The listings that were created directed Web users to targeted product pages within a partner Web site.
There are three major metrics to consider when measuring the effectiveness of your search engine advertising campaign: click volume, conversion rate and return on investment (ROI). After comparing the results of the four PPC search engines, MarketingExperiments.com found that Enhance Interactive had the highest overall ROI at more than 500%. (see chart below)
To further illustrate the relative value of Enhance Interactive compared to other PPC search engines, we conducted a small experiment of our own. We selected the keyword phrase "beauty products" to represent a health and beauty products Web site. We then looked up the click price of beauty products for the #1 listing position on Google, Overture, FindWhat and Enhance Interactive. In terms of click price, Google's click price ($2.47) for beauty products was 24 times more expensive than Enhance Interactive ($.10), for the same keyword.
